What is a UPS?

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) acts as a buffer between the incoming power supply and your electronic equipment such as computers, modems, or other electronic devices including electro-medical equipment.

It's function is to ensure a continued normal service to your equipment by catching any unexpected and potentially damaging changes in voltages, and to supplement any drops, dips or cuts in the power supply. This can cover from the dramatic total power outage, through power surges and sags to the annoying but harmful noise from radio transmissions or other electrical interference. In any such event, the UPS allows sufficient time to save data or files in the normal way, and if necessary be able to close the system down in a safe, controlled and standard manner, all without damage to memory or components. This can be done by you or in most cases by UPS management software.
